This blog will provide information and assistance to vacationers and all others interested in Sanibel Island. Post a Comment. Nudity has always been an interesting concept to me. Yet it is always seen within the context of lewd or funny, not just naked or nude. And, I was surprised to hear given common public sentiment that there was a clothes optional beach on Sanibel. I thought I had been to every beach on the Island but I never saw bathers sans suits anywhere.
Anyone know of any restrictions on thong bikinis at Sanibel Island beaches? I'm going to wear mine the next time I go and was wondering if anyone would harass me over it. I've had people make comments at other "conservative" beaches. I really don't want to be bothered with rude comments on my vacation so I'd like to know what I might encounter. There are no restrictions but keep in mind Sanibel is a family destination, and our family chooses to go there for that reason, among others. I really would rather not have a girl in a thong sunbathing in front of my boys, or my daughter for that matter. The only time I see thongs are during holiday weekends, like Memorial day, and then I only see a couple.
Is there really one on Sanibel? Rumor has it there is a "unofficial" spot on upper Captiva, probably a mile of so up the coast from the east end of the island. North Captiva [south end of the island below the new cut] is one possibility, but only when the beach is deserted.
The beach fronts onto the Gulf of Mexico, in front of the protected Silver Key conservation area, which is also known as Old Blind Pass, on some maps. The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, and others, work to keep this beach natural. The clothing optional beach is a key hatching area for endangered sea turtles, who have been protected by beachgoers and local residents for decades.
