The decision to move the nude cyclists to the end of the Fremont Solstice Parade caused quite a bit of controversy when it was announced in March, and now, the organizers have decided to bring it back to the beginning of the parade. We decided to try having the cyclists go after the Parade this year so they could loop as much as they wanted without delaying the Parade. The event was started by streakers who crashed the parade. The first person to do so may have done so on a dare. Participants now emphasize bodypainting and other artistry. The group is the largest and fastest growing ensemble associated with the parade.
2019 Fremont Solstice Parade Changes Nude Bike Ride
Painted cyclists will cycle after the Parade, beginning at pm. Everyone is always invited to witness the spectacle of people-powered ensembles weaving through the streets of Fremont with music, dancers, stilt walkers, floats, and an abundance of breathtaking art. For over 30 years the soul of the Parade has dwelled in its participants, the artists and volunteers, and what each brings to the streets. Who are these people? They are your friends and neighbors and should be you!
It is a fantastic celebration of the return of the sun, complete with larger than life puppets, floats, and street performers. The parade operates with 4 guidelines — no printed words or recognizable logos, no motor vehicles, no live animals, and no guns or weapons. The parade is on the Saturday on or before the solstice every year. Depending upon the complexity of your design, painting can take from 45 minutes to 4 hours. There are a number of choices: textile acrylics, theatrical body paint, and temporary tattoo paint.
